ABSTRACT The efficiency of recurrent selection depends, among other factors, on the estimation of parameters that guide the breeder to obtain genetic gains for multiple traits. The aim of this research was to estimate genetic and phenotypic parameters of maize populations during the third cycle of recurrent selection for traits of interest. The populations CRE-01 and CRE-02, potential for resistance to corn stunt, were described using genetic and phenotypic parameters of variance components, heritability, variation indices and correlation between 16 agronomic traits. Direct and indirect selection gains were estimated for each trait and considering the Smith and Hazel, Mulamba and Mock and Z index. Both populations have genetic variability for the traits. High heritability estimates were obtained for most of the traits, which associated with the genetic variability, indicate that these populations may show continuous gains with recurrent selection. All selection indexes provided satisfactory genetic gains, but the Z index was the most promising considering the results of both populations.

Abstract The objective of this work was to describe and compare the patterns of genetic variation in 19 populations of Anacardium humile from the Cerrado biome of the Brazilian Midwestern region. The ex situ germplasm collection of Universidade Federal de Jataí, in the state of Goiás, Brazil, was used for the study. To quantify the genetic variability of A. humile, 529 plants from 17 populations in Goiás from 2 in the state of Mato Grosso were studied, from which nine microsatellite loci were genotyped by capillary electrophoresis. The populations showed high levels of genetic diversity, with an average value of 0.830, and high inbreeding values, which suggests a deficit of heterozygotes. The genetic differentiation value between populations was 0.065. The greatest variability, which is moderately structured, was observed within populations. There is a significant inbreeding within the A. humile population in the Cerrado biome of the Brazilian Midwestern region. The A. humile populations are divided into two groups.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever e comparar os padrões de variação genética em 19 populações de Anacardium humile do bioma Cerrado da região Centro-Oeste brasileira. A coleção ex situ de germoplasma da Universidade Federal de Jataí, no estado de Goiás, Brasil, foi utilizada para o estudo. Para quantificar a variabilidade genética de A. humile, 529 plantas oriundas de 17 populações de Goiás e de 2 do estado de Mato Grosso foram estudadas, das quais nove loci microssatélites foram genotipados por eletroforese capilar. As populações apresentaram altos níveis de diversidade genética, com valor médio de 0,830, e altos valores de endogamia, o que sugere um déficit de heterozigotos. O valor de diferenciação genética entre as populações foi de 0,065. Já a maior variabilidade, estruturada de forma moderada, foi observada dentro das populações. Há endogamia significativa na população de A. humile no bioma Cerrado da região Centro-Oeste brasileira. As populações de A. humile estão divididas em dois grupos.

Abstract The present study selected progenies, aiming at the production of green corn, by methods of intrapopulation recurrent selection with subsequent recombination, generating open-pollinated populations. To this end, in the 2017/2018 second season, progenies from the PMVJ01 population (originated from the recombination of progenies of the TG-02R2 x AG1051 cross) were evaluated, using PMVJ01 and the hybrid AG1051 as controls. The following parameters were evaluated: flowering, heights, green ear yield, husk cover, ear diameter and length, mass yield, ear shape, number of rows on the ear, alignment of rows, color of kernels, and husk width and length. Genetic parameters were estimated, and the gain was predicted with the selection of 20% of the progenies, using the index of Mulamba and Mock in four selection procedures and a fifth by multivariate method. Genetic variability was found in the population, which allows advances in the selection process. After recombination, two of the populations generated showed potential for use as open-pollinated cultivar.

Abstract: The present study aimed to evaluate the applicability and efficiency of the FAI-BLUP index in the genetic selection of maize hybrids, using 84 maize hybrids that were evaluated for cycle, morphology, and yield traits in four environments. Models accounting for homogeneous and heterogeneous residual variances were tested, and variance components were estimated using the residual maximum likelihood. Genotypic values were predicted by best linear unbiased prediction, and factor analysis was applied to group the traits. The FAI-BLUP index was used for the selection of maize hybrids based on ideotype design. Three factors explained more than 70% of genotypic variability, with selective accuracies varying from low (0.46) to high (0.99). Predicted genetic gains were positive for traits related to yield and negative for traits related to cycle and morphology, as is desirable in maize crop.

RESUMO No presente trabalho objetivou-se avaliar a diversidade genética entre famílias de meios irmãos de milho para resistência a doenças foliares associada ao seu potencial agronômico, identificando grupos de famílias que possam ser utilizadas como fontes de resistência na cultura do milho. Os experimentos foram conduzidos na área experimental da Universidade Federal de Goiás na Regional Jataí, em Jataí (GO), constituído por 182 famílias de meios-irmãos de milho e dois híbridos comerciais como testemunha. As 182 famílias de meios-irmãos foram divididas em três experimentos com 60, 60 e 62 famílias, respectivamente. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos casualizados, com três repetições. Foram avaliados oito caracteres quantitativos e quatro doenças foliares. Foi utilizada a técnica de análise multivariada para medir a divergência genética para as quatro doenças foliares representada pela distância generalizada de Mahalanobis. Com base na matriz de dissimilaridade genética foi construído o dendrograma pelo método de agrupamento da distância média entre grupos (UPGMA). Após a definição dos grupos, realizou-se a análise de variância univariada, a fim de avaliar os efeitos dos grupos sobre cada caráter estudado. Foram realizadas comparações entre as médias dos grupos, utilizando-se do teste de Tukey (p<0,05). A incidência de mancha branca (32.53%) foi a doença que mais contribuiu para a divergência total entre as famílias. O grupo 10 destacou -se dentre os demais como fonte de resistência para o complexo de doenças associado a produtividade. A variabilidade genética das famílias para o complexo de doenças foliares revela potencial para futuros estudos voltados para piramidação de genes.

ABSTRACT In the present study the objective was to evaluate the genetic diversity among families of maize siblings for resistance to foliar diseases associated with their agronomic potential, identifying groups of families that can be used as sources of resistance in maize crop. The experiments were conducted in the experimental area of the Federal University of Goiás at the Jataí Regional Unit, in Jataí, GO, Brazil, constituted by 182 half-sibling families of maize and two commercial hybrids as a control. The 182 half-sibling families were divided into three experiments with 60, 60 and 62 families, respectively. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, with three replicates. Eight quantitative characters and 4 foliar diseases were evaluated. The multivariate analysis technique was used to measure the genetic divergence for the four foliar diseases represented by the generalized Mahalanobis distance. Based on the genetic dissimilarity matrix, the dendrogram was constructed using the clustering method of the average distance between groups (Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean - UPGMA). After defining the groups, univariate analysis of variance was performed in order to evaluate the effects of the groups on each character studied. Comparisons were made between the means of the groups, using the Tukey test (p <0.05). White spot (32.53%) was the disease that most contributed to the total divergence between families. Group 10 stood out among the others as a source of resistance to the disease complex associated with yield. The genetic variability of families for foliar disease complex reveals potential for future studies facing pyramiding genes.

ABSTRACT In plant breeding programs, the selection of potential progenies in early generations of inbreeding is an essential step. Considering that, the adoption of topcrosses helps the breeder in the selection, this study aimed to verify the potential of S2 strains for synthesis of synthetic varieties and to obtain experimental information on yield and agronomic potential of topcross hybrids. As such, 75 topcross hybrids were generated from crossing 75 S2 lines with F2 generation of the commercial hybrid. The 75 hybrids were grown in a field, along with two commercial hybrids in a randomized complete block design with 4 replicates and in 4-meter plots. Flowering, plant height, height, diameter, length and weight in the ear, and grain yield traits were examined. Analysis of variance was performed, the combining ability was estimated, and, from the means, the Scott & Knott test was conducted. So, the topcross hybrids that distinguished themselves for grain yield were those composed by lines 67, 14, 44, and 69, presenting high CGA, therefore indicating good potential for producing synthetic or base population. For the other traits of agronomic interest that were assessed in maize, a potential for selection with different focuses was found: reduction of cycle and height and increase in length and diameter of the ear.

Resumo As espécies Campomanesia adamantium e C. pubescens apresentam uma grande variabilidade morfológica, com a existência de morfotipos e, a indicação de um possível processo de hibridação ocorrendo entre elas. Assim o objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar a espécie Campomanesia adamantium e os morfotipos da espécie Campomanesia pubescens através de análises palinológicas e com uso de marcadores moleculares para auxiliar na descrição taxonômica das espécies. O material vegetal foi coletado no campo experimental da Universidade Federal de Jataí, na floração de 2014 e as análises realizadas no Laboratório Morfologia e Taxonomia Vegetal e no Laboratório de Genética e Melhoramento de Plantas da mesma instituição. As análises de microscopia eletrônica de varredura foram realizadas na Universidade Federal de Lavras. Foram encontradas informações importantes que reforçam a possibilidade de cruzamento entre C. adamantium e C. pubescens, gerando morfotipos intermediários, indicando um possível processo de hibridação. Pode-se concluir que C. adamantium está mais distante do morfotipo 2 de C. pubescens e os morfotipos 1 e 3 são intermediários entre eles, sendo possivelmente híbridos.

Abstract The species Campomanesia adamantium and C. pubescens present a great morphological variability, with the existence of morphotypes and the indication of a possible hybridization process occurring between them. Thus, the aim of this study was to characterize the Campomanesia adamantium species and morphotypes of species Campomanesia pubescens through palynological reviews and with the use of molecular markers to assist the taxonomic description of the species. The plant material was collected in the experimental field of Federal University of Jataí, in bloom of 2014, and analyzes were performed in the Morphology Laboratory of Plant Taxonomy and in the Laboratory of Genetics and Plant Breeding belonging to the same institution. Analysis of scanning electron microscopy was performed at the Federal University of Lavras. Important information was found that reinforce the possibility of cross between Campomanesia adamantium and Campomanesia pubescens, generating morphotypes intermediaries, indicating a possible hybridisation process. It can be concluded that Campomanesia adamantium is farthest from the morphotype 2 from Campomanesia pubescens, and morphotypes 1 and 3 are intermediate between them, possibly being hybrids.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a estratégia seletiva mais adequada para o incremento simultâneo de componentes da produção de milho verde, pela comparação de três índices de seleção, ponderados por pesos econômicos, e pelo método REML/BLUP, na avaliação de ganhos genéticos previstos para os caracteres de interesse. Um ensaio com 75 híbridos topcross, de linhagens S1 parcialmente endogâmicas de milho-verde foi implementado em Jataí, GO, Brasil, tendo-se utilizado um delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. As seguintes características de produtividade foram avaliadas: espigas empalhadas e espigas comerciais, massa de grãos, comprimento de espiga, diâmetro de espiga e número de fileiras da espiga. Os índices de seleção de Smith e Hazel, Williams e de Mulamba & Mock foram aplicados e ponderados por quatro pesos econômicos (1, CVg, CVg/CVe e h2). Entre os índices de seleção testados, o de Williams e os de Mulamba & Mock são os melhores para a seleção de híbridos de milho verde, pois proporcionam ganhos de seleção positivos e mais equilibrados em todos os caracteres avaliados. O método REML/BLUP apresenta melhores ganhos genéticos preditos do que os obtidos pelos três índices de seleção estudados, além de ser eficiente para a seleção de híbridos topcross de milho verde.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to define the most suitable selective strategy for the simultaneous increment of yield components of green maize, by comparing three selection indexes weighted by economic weights and by the REML/BLUP method, in the assessment of predicted genetic gains for traits of interest. An experiment with 75 topcross hybrids from partially inbred S1 lines of green maize was carried out in Jataí, in the state of Goiás, Brazil, using a randomized complete block design, with four replicates. The following yield traits were evaluated: straw ears and commercial ears, grain mass, ear length, ear diameter, and number of ear rows. The selection indexes of Smith and Hazel, Williams, and Mulamba & Mock were applied and weighted for four economic weights (1, CVg, CVg/CVe, and h2). Among the tested selection indexes, those of Williams and Mulamba & Mock are the best-fit ones for the selection of topcross hybrids of green maize, as they provide positive and more balanced selection gains for all evaluated traits. The REML/BLUP method shows better predicted genetic gains than those achieved by the three selection indexes, besides being efficient for the selection of topcross hybrids of green maize.

RESUMO A guarirobeira é uma espécie de palmeira que produz o palmito amargo, muito apreciado na culinária do Centro-Oeste brasileiro,e que pode ser utilizada tanto em projetos paisagísticos, como na alimentação animal. No entanto, por falta de informações agronômicas sobre a referida espécie, as estratégias de cultivo comercial, de seleção e de melhoramento são dificultadas. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a divergência genética entre populações de guarirobeiras, de três municípios do Estado de Goiás, e quantificar a contribuição relativa de oito características na diversidade, utilizando procedimentos multivariados. Foram analisados 24 indivíduos provenientes de três populações, com número de indivíduos de três plantas com 30 e 36 meses de idade. As características avaliadas foram: diâmetro do estipe, número de folhas definitivas, altura da planta, comprimento da primeira folha verde, número de bainhas foliares e comprimento,, diâmetro da base e peso do palmito. A diversidade genética das populações foi avaliada pelos métodos de agrupamento de Tocher, com base na matriz de dissimilaridade, obtida pela distância euclidiana média padronizada e na análise por componentes principais com dispersão gráfica no plano cartesiano. Os resultados mostraram a existência de variabilidade genética, estimativas de herdabilidade de magnitude elevada para altura da planta, comprimento da folha, diâmetro do caule a 10 cm do solo, número de bainhas e diâmetro da base do palmito. A realização do agrupamento pelo método de Tocher, com base na matriz de dissimilaridade, promoveu a formação de oito grupos, evidenciando a influência da origem geográfica no agrupamento, e mostrou que a seleção com base em caracteres não destrutivos de alta correlação genética, como diâmetro do estipe e comprimento da folha, pode promover ganhos importantes na produção de palmito.

ABSTRACT Bitter palm is a palm tree species that produces bitter core, which is too appreciated in cooking and can be used in animal feeding, as well as in landscaping, but it is still little studied, which hinders strategies for its cultivation and breeding. The present work aimed at evaluating the genetic divergence among bitter palm populations of three municipalities of Goiás and quantifying the relative contribution of eight characteristics in the diversity, using multivariate procedures. Twenty-four individuals from three populations were analyzed, with individuals from three plants with 30 and 36 months of age. The characteristics evaluated were: stipe diameter, number of definitive leaves, plant height, length of first green leaf, number of leaf sheaths, length and weight of heart of palm, and diameter of heart of palm base. The genetic diversity of the populations was evaluated by Tocher’s grouping method based on the dissimilarity matrix obtained by standardized mean Euclidean distance and the principal component analysis with graphical dispersion in the Cartesian plane. The results demonstrated the existence of genetic variability and heritability estimates of high magnitude for plant height, leaf length, stalk diameter at 10 cm soil, number of heart of palm sheaths, and core diameter of heart of palm. The performance of the grouping by Tocher’s method based on the dissimilarity matrix promoted the formation of eight groups, evidencing the influence of the geographical origin in the grouping and the selection in non-destructive characters of high genetic correlation as stalk diameter and leaf length can promote important gains in the production of heart of palm.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a diversidade genética de acessos de macaúba (Acrocomia aculeata) provenientes de 35 municípios de Goiás, a fim de obter informações sobre a variabilidade genética e fornecer subsídios para implantação comercial da cultura na região Centro-Oeste. Procedeu-se à colheita dos cachos com frutos maduros. Foram avaliados: os comprimentos e os diâmetros dos frutos e das amêndoas; os pesos dos frutos e das amêndoas; o número médio de amêndoas; bem como os teores de óleo na amêndoa e no fruto desidratado. Os parâmetros que indicaram contribuições significativas para a variabilidade foram peso do fruto, largura do fruto, comprimento do fruto e teor de óleo na amêndoa.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the genetic diversity of macaúba (Acrocomia aculeata) accessions from 35 municipalities of the state of Goiás, Brazil, in order to obtain information about the genetic variability and to provide subsidies for the commercial deployment of the culture in the Midwestern region of Brazil. The bunches were harvested with ripe fruits. The following were evaluated: fruit and almond lengths and diameters; the weights of fruits and almonds; the average number of almonds, as well as the oil contents in the almond and in the dehydrated fruit. The parameters that indicated significant contributions to the variability were fruit weight, fruit width, fruit length, and oil content in the almond.

Resumo A rápida expansão do milho no Brasil indica claramente a necessidade de explorar novas fontes de germoplasma. Assim, o uso mais amplo de germoplasma local e a introdução de germoplasma exótico parecem uma estratégia recomendável para atingir níveis mais elevados de produtividade e adaptabilidade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi gerar informação sobre o potencial de dois grupos de populações (NAP - exótico; HG - local) e seu potencial heterótico em combinações híbridas para a síntese de novas populações. Populações e híbridos foram avaliados em blocos casualizados com três repetições em dois locais e três caracteres de produção foram estudados (GY - produção de grãos, EY - produção de espigas, SW - peso específico). A estratégia básica foi a seleção de uma população HG como base para incorporação de cada população exótica. O ganho esperado na produção das melhores combinações variou de 1 a 22%. A heterose média para peso de grãos foi de 34,5%.

Abstract The rapid expansion of corn in Brazil indicates the need to explore new sources of germplasm. Thus, the wider use of local germplasm, and the introduction of exotic ones seem to be an advisable strategy to achieve higher levels of yield and adaptability. The objective of this work was to generate information about the potential of two groups of populations (NAP - exotic; HG - local) and their heterotic pattern in hybrid combinations for the synthesis of new populations. Populations and hybrids were evaluated in complete randomized block designs with four replications, in two locations, and three yield traits were studied (GY - grain yield, EY - ear yield, SW - specific weight). The basic strategy was the selection of one HG population as base for the incorporation of each exotic population. The expected yield gain of the best combinations varied from 1 to 22%. Average heterosis for grain yield was 34.5%.

O cajuzinho-do-cerrado (Anacardium humile A. ST-HIL.) possui uma ampla distribuição no Cerrado do Centro-Oeste Brasileiro, seus frutos carnosos são amplamente utilizados pelas populações regionais de forma extrativista. Apesar do promissor potencial agro econômico, raros estudos foram desenvolvidos visando à domesticação da espécie. O trabalho objetivou avaliar vinte diferentes matrizes de cajuzinho-do-cerrado, verificando como o peso e o armazenamento de núculas se relacionam com o porcentual de emergência e variáveis biométricas de plântulas recém-formadas. Foram coletados 50 frutos de diferentes matrizes de Anacardium humile, dentro do Parque Nacional das Emas, Mineiros, GO. Todos os frutos coletados apresentaram pedicelos maduros, desenvolvidos e amarelos. Sete matrizes apresentaram um número excedente de frutos, para estas, colheram-se outras 50 núculas, que foram armazenadas em câmara fria e seca, por um período de seis meses. O porcentual de emergência de plântulas mostrou-se satisfatório, tanto no experimento geral, como por progênie. A reprodução de Anacardium humile através de núculas mostrou-se promissora. O peso das núculas não influenciou o porcentual de emergência ou a biometria das plântulas. O armazenamento das núculas, por seis meses, para o plantio no outono, mostrou-se ineficiente.

Cajuzinho-do-cerrado (Anacardium humile A. ST-HIL.) has a wide distribution in areas of the Midwest Brazilian Cerrado, it's fleshy fruits are widely used by regional populations in an extractive way. Despite the promising agro-economic potential, few studies have been developed to domestication of the species. The study aimed to evaluate twenty different matrices of cajuzinho-do-cerrado, checking how the weight and the storage of cashew nuts are related with the emergence percentage and biometric variables of seedling newly formed. Fifty fruits were collected from twenty different matrices of Anacardium humile inside the Emas National Park, Mineiros, GO. All fruits collected showed matured, developed and yellow pedicels. Seven matrices had an excess number of fruits, so it was harvested 50 other cashew nuts, which were stored in cold and dry chamber for a period of six months. The seedlings emergence rates were satisfactory in both, total experiment and for progeny. Reproduction of Anacardium humile through cashew nuts proved to be promising. Weight of cashew nuts did not affect emergence rates or seedlings biometrics. The storage of nuts for six months for planting in autumn was inefficient.

O trabalho foi realizado no Laboratório de Sementes do Instituto Federal Goiano Câmpus de Rio Verde, Estado de Goiás, visando acelerar e homogeneizar a germinação de sementes de macaúba. Para isso foi avaliado o efeito da escarificação física (remoção do tegumento na região do hilo), térmica (embebição das sementes em água aquecida a aproximadamente 100ºC, por dois e quatro minutos) e química (ácido sulfúrico 98%, por dois e quatro minutos), comparadas ao controle (ausência de escarificação), bem como o efeito da forma de embebição (rápida e lenta) e diferentes concentrações do ácido giberélico (0, 100 e 200 mg L-1) na porcentagem e velocidade de germinação. A mortalidade das sementes escarificadas e mantidas em germinador ocorrem em baixas porcentagens, porém em casa de vegetação esse número foi acima de 50% quando se utilizou a escarificação térmica em água quente e em ácido sulfúrico. A escarificação física, removendo o tegumento das sementes na região do hilo, favoreceu a germinação das sementes e a emergência das plântulas, sendo este o tipo de escarificação mais indicado para a superação da dormência nessa espécie. Não se obteve acréscimo na germinação das sementes com o ácido giberélico, independente da forma de aplicação nas sementes.

This study was performed to improve the speed of and standardize the process for the germination of macaw palm seeds. The effect of mechanical scarification (removal of the tegument in the hilum region), thermal scarification (imbibition of seeds in water at approximately 100ºC for two or four minutes) and chemical scarification (98% sulfuric acid treatment for two or four minutes) were compared to a control (no scarification) in both a germination chamber and a greenhouse, representing trials one and two, respectively. The effect of imbibition speed (fast or slow) and different concentrations of gibberellic acid (0, 100 or 200 mg L-1) on the germination percentage and index of germination velocity were evaluated during a third trial. Mechanical scarification to remove the seed tegument in the hilum region enhanced the germination of the seeds in the germination chamber and seedling emergence in the greenhouse, and this type of scarification should be recommended for breaking dormancy in this species. Not obtained increase in seed germination with gibberellic acid, regardless of the application form in the seeds.

O conhecimento da divergência genética em coleções de germoplasma é importante para fins de conservação e uso em programas de melhoramento genético, reduzindo tempo e custo na obtenção de novos genótipos. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar a divergência genética entre 137 genótipos de Capsicum chinense Jacq., por meio de descritores morfológicos, empregando-se técnicas multivariadas, para a identificação de grupos de intercruzamentos com potencial uso em programas de melhoramento. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, sendo os genótipos dispostos no delineamento de blocos completos casualizados, com quatro repetições, cada parcela constituída de um vaso com uma planta. Para a caracterização morfológica foram considerados vinte descritores entre os recomendados pelo International Plant Genetic Resources Institute - IPGRI. Pela análise de variância, evidenciaram-se diferenças significativas entre os genótipos para os descritores estudados. O método de otimização de Tocher detectou a formação de cinco grupos e, o método de agrupamento hierárquico UPGMA, a formação de 11 grupos. Com base nas maiores distâncias intergrupos, recomenda-se cruzamentos, pelo método de otimização de Tocher, entre genótipos dos grupos II com V, II com IV, I com V, e, pelo método hierárquico UPGMA, entre genótipos dos grupos VI com XI, II com XI, IV com XI. O coeficiente de correlação cofenético para o agrupamento hierárquico UPGMA foi de 0,797 (p<0,01). Os descritores que mais contribuíram para a divergência genética total foram número de dias para florescimento e altura de plantas.

Knowledge on the genetic diversity in genebanks is important for germplasm conservation and use in breeding programs, where it can reduce time and costs of breeding of new genotypes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the genetic divergence among 137 genotypes of Capsicum chinense Jacq. by morphological descriptors and multivariate techniques, with a view to the identification of groups for promising crosses for breeding programs. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications, where each plot consisted of a pot with one plant. The 20 descriptors recommended by the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute - IPGRI were considered for the morphological characterization. By analysis of variance, significant differences between genotypes were detected for the studied descriptors. Clustering by the Tocher optimization method formed five groups, and by the hierarchical clustering method UPGMA, 11 groups. Based on larger distances intergroup, crosses are recommended among genotypes of the groups II x V, II x IV, and I x V for the Tocher method, and by UPGMA among genotypes of the groups VI x XI, II x XI, IV x XI,. The cophenetic correlation coefficient for the hierarchical clustering method UPGMA was 0.797 (p <0.01). The traits that contributed most to the total genetic diversity were number of days to flowering and plant height.

A palmeira Guariroba (Syagrus oleracea Becc.) é a única espécie produtora de palmito amargo o qual é muito apreciado na culinária Goiana, podendo também ser utilizada na alimentação animal e paisagismo, porém ainda é pouco estudada. A germinação lenta e desuniforme das sementes acarreta problemas na propagação dessa espécie, dificultando, principalmente, a produção de mudas em escala comercial. Nesta pesquisa, objetivou-se avaliar diferentes tratamentos destinados a reduzir o estado de dormência e, consequentemente, acelerar o período germinativo de sementes de guariroba no sentido de desenvolver técnicas de fácil metodologia para serem utilizadas na agricultura familiar. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos inteiramente casualizados, com três repetições, em esquema fatorial 2x7, envolvendo dois fatores em estudo, semente (despolpada e não despolpada) e diferentes métodos de tratamento das sementes (7 métodos). Em uma segunda etapa, verificou-se a interferência da coleobroca na germinação das sementes, contabilizando as sementes atacadas em cada tratamento, avaliadas após a emergência. Os resultados observados mostram que os tratamentos a baixas temperaturas diminuem significativamente a germinação de sementes de guariroba e que o despolpamento das sementes promovem uma redução no tempo de germinação. Ainda foi constatado que uma redução da umidade até 8% não prejudica a germinação de sementes de guariroba e que a absorção de água pelas sementes é influenciada diretamente pelo tempo de permanência das mesmas em embebição, ocorrendo de forma independente da presença ou não de polpa. Nenhum dos tratamentos estudados mostrou efeito na redução do ataque da coleobroca.

The Guariroba Palm (Syagrus oleraces Becc) is the only species known as producer of bitter palm heart, which is very appreciated in Goiânia cooking and can also be used in animal feeding and landscaping; however, it is little studied. The slow and uneven germination of seeds cause problems in the propagation of this species, thus complicating mainly the seedling production at a commercial scale. This study evaluated different treatments to reduce the dormancy state and consequently to speed up the germination period of guariroba palm seeds and looking for techniques of easy comprehension and application by small farmers. The experimental design was in completely randomized blocks with three replications in a 2 x 7 factorial arrangement; i.e, two levels for type of seeds (pulped and not pulped) an seven different methods of seed treatment. In the second stage, the interference of coleobroca in the seed germination was quantified by counting the number of attacked seeds after seedling germination. The observed results showed that treatments under low temperatures caused a significant decrease in seed germination of guariroba and that non pulped seeds reduced the time required for germination. It was also evidenced that reducing humidity to 8% does not affect the germination of guariroba seeds and that the water absorption by the seeds was influenced directly by the time of immersion in the water glass, independently of pulp presence. The studied treatments were not effective in reduccing coleobroca attack.
